The page is designed to assist you as a student to find the essential resources needed for exploring the diverse field of cultural studies. Cultural Studies is an interdisciplinary program with much of its background in sociology, political science, humanities, anthropology, environmental science, English, philosophy, and a host of other disciplines. Cultural Studies has become increasingly popular for students who seek to understand how cultures are formed, the social impacts of cultural growth, and impacts of competing cultures from globalization.
Athabasca University's Cultural Studies Program gives students the information needed to understand what culture is, how it develops, and why it is important for individuals in society. Students are introduced to case studies of diverse cultural groups like gender studies, punks, cyberculture, visual culture, subcultures and countercultures. The program illustrates how these groups create social movements in unique ways. There are also plenty of contextual and theoretical resources for you to improve your personal understanding about local and global cultural formation.
